Too Young!

As one would assume from the title of my blog page, I am a poet, a rather reluctant one at that. This particular poem came to me at work, while considering the actions of one of my fellow workers. He was rather young and I thought that he made decisions in a rash manner. I thought he was too young to understand how his decisions now affect his life later. From that thought I wrote a poem which quickly changed from the original thought to dealing with the subject of partial birth abortion, which is an abominal practice that should be outlawed. This poem deals with the things that won't happen because of abortion. Here it is as I perceive it.

Too young to understand.
Too young to be a man.
Too young to even drink.

He was struck down in the start of life.
No time to find a wife.
Never even became a thought.

He was too young, too young to pursue his dreams
Too young to eat ice cream.
Too young for walks in the park.

He was too young to show he cared.
Too young, even, to be scared.
He was simply too young.

He was too young, too young to be born.
Too young to be scorned.
He was just too young.

He was too young to breathe fresh air.
Too young to grow long hair.
Too young to be stabbed in the back of the neck with a knife.
If only his mother had realized that he was too young.
